Cardinals Related News

Read the following at your own risk for my reading/writing are at a 3rd grade level. Anyhow, here is some recent news in regards to the St. Louis Cardinals.

There are reports coming out that claim the Giants are close to signing Edgar Renteria (again). Terms have yet to be disclosed. Perhaps close to the 2yr/$18M that was stated earlier last month. IF this deal pans out what options are left for the Cardinals? One of the writers from the St. Louis Post thinks that Khalil Greene's $6.5M price tag is looking more attractive (via trade). I however don't want a career .248 avg at the SS position. How about a middle infielder that can handle leadoff duties? "Save" some money and get 2 for 1. Some other MI names that have been linked to the Cardinals include:

- Orlando Hudson (fa; leadoff capability however rumored to be looking for multi yr deal @ $10M per.)
- Ben Zobrist (via trade; rumors circulated about a Skip Schumacher for Zobrist in October)
- Rafael Furcal (this aint happening)
- David Eckstein (fa)
- Felipe Lopez (fa)
- Cesar Izturis (fa)

All other MI FA's:
- Orlando Cabrera
- Juan Castro
- Alex Cintron
- Craig Counsell
- Alex Cora
- Ray Durham
- Damion Easley
- Adam Everett
- Nomar Garciaparra
- Chris Gomez
- Mark Grudzielanek
- Jerry Hairston Jr
- Mark Loretta
- Ramon Martinez
- Nick Punto
- Luis Rivas
- Omar Vizquel

Anyhow, with the winter meetings taking place this upcoming week, more news is sure to come...

Other important dates:
Sunday 12/7/08 - last day for declared FA's to accept arbitration from original ballclub
Monday - Thursday 12/8 - 12/11 - winter meetings

Orlando Hudson sure would look good on base with Pujols at the plate...
